Privacy notice
Your data stays yours.
What this website collects (very little), what happens when you contact us, your rights, and how the product treats your organization's data.
I
Who we are
This notice is published by Fermisense, Inc. ("Fermisense", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal data described here.
For anything about privacy, write to justin@fermisense.com.
II
What this notice covers
It covers three things:
- visiting fermisense.com, including the blog;
- contacting us by email or booking a call with us;
- how the Fermisense product treats your organization's data, in outline.
When your organization deploys Fermisense, the agreement between us (and any data processing agreement) governs that deployment. Where it differs from this notice, the agreement wins.
III
What this website collects
This website has no sign-up, no forms and no user accounts. It collects very little:
- No cookies. No page on this site sets a cookie.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking. There are no analytics tools, advertising tags, tracking pixels or social-media widgets, and no videos or other content embedded from third parties.
- Server logs. Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages receive standard technical information with each request: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. This is used to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Fonts from Google. The monospace font is loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser therefore contacts Google when a page loads, which gives Google your IP address and browser details. See Google's privacy policy.
IV
When you contact us or book a call
- Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write.
- Booking a call. The "Book a call" buttons open a booking page run by Google Calendar. The details you enter there (usually your name, email address and anything you add to the booking) are collected by Google on our behalf and shared with us so we can hold the call. Google's privacy policy also applies to that page.
- The call itself. We may take notes during a call to follow up on what we discussed. We do not record calls without asking you first.
V
How we use it, and why we may
We use personal data only to:
- deliver this website and keep it secure (our legitimate interest in running a working, safe site);
- reply to you, arrange and hold calls, and follow up on them (at your request, to take steps before a possible contract, or our legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries);
- meet legal obligations, such as keeping business records or responding to lawful requests.
We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or make decisions about you by automated means.
VI
Who we share it with
- Service providers who run parts of our operations on our instructions: website hosting, email and Google Calendar.
- Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it or to protect our rights.
- A buyer or successor, if Fermisense is involved in a merger or acquisition, under the same protections.
Links on this site to other websites (article sources, LinkedIn or X profiles, client websites) take you to services with their own privacy practices. We do not control them.
VII
International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google, may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
VIII
How long we keep it
- Server logs: for the period set by our hosting provider, and no longer than needed for security.
- Emails and call notes: as long as we are in conversation with you or your organization, and afterwards only as long as needed for our records or legal obligations.
- Your theme choice: until you clear it in your browser.
IX
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU, the UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws), you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it or delete it;
- restrict how we use it, or object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests;
- give it to you, or to someone else, in a portable format;
- withdraw any consent you have given, without affecting what happened before.
Write to justin@fermisense.com. We will answer within one month and will not charge you or treat you differently for asking. We may need to confirm your identity first.
You can also complain to your data protection authority, for example in Lithuania the State Data Protection Inspectorate (Valstybinė duomenų apsaugos inspekcija). We would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.
X
Your organization's data in the product
Fermisense is built so that the knowledge it indexes stays in your hands:
- It runs on-premise, on your infrastructure, with no infrastructure changes.
- You own your data. The index Fermisense builds belongs to you, as do the sources it is built from.
- Sources stay where they are. Your email, chat, documents and files are indexed in place. Nothing is migrated.
- You choose the models. You decide which AI models, frontier or local, are pointed at the index.
Your organization decides what is connected and who can see it, and acts as the controller of that data. Any access our team needs, for example during setup or support, is set out in your agreement with us.
XI
Children, security and changes
- Children. This website and our services are for businesses and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect children's personal data.
- Security. We protect the personal data we hold with access controls and by limiting it to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't email us anything more sensitive than you need to.
- Changes. If we change this notice, we will update it here and change the date below.
XII
Questions
Write to justin@fermisense.com or book a call. We are happy to walk you through how a deployment handles your data.
